Chairman PIAF Irfan Qaiser Sheikh has urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to stop tax officials from creating an atmosphere of harassment by issuing unnecessary income tax and sales tax audit notices to the businessmen. He was talking to a delegation of businessmen here on Friday.

He said that PIAF had received a number of complaints that the department was issuing notices for audit purposes at the business premises. He said that all the leading economies were giving incentives to expedite economic activities in their respective countries but in Pakistan the people who are sitting at the helm of affairs were doing the otherwise at this point in time when almost industrial sector were facing challenges like high input cost, deteriorating law and order situation, massive electricity and gas load shedding.

He further said that the days are gone when tax collection was made through physical visits, now the people are quite conscious of their national obligations and the decision to send tax officials to manufacturing units would only create hurdles in the smooth working of any industrial entity. Irfan Qaiser Sheikh has appealed to the Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, Federal Minister for Finance Shaukat Tarin and Chairman FBR to take notice of the situation and order to stop issuance of unnecessary audit notices.
